I found a group of pelicans at the lake near my home. I was so surprised to see them because I have never seen any pelicans around before. I captured some photos of them.
White pelicans are prominent in Minnesota’s history. Despite that heritage, the American white pelican disappeared from Minnesota for seven decades because of human activity. There were no reports of nesting in Minnesota after 1978.
After a lot of conservation efforts statewide, such distinct looking birds start making remarkable comeback in recent years. Gradually Minnesota turn into their summer home, and their layover places for some of them to continuously fly toward the north.
Welcome back, beautiful and interesting pelicans!
